Athene said... I love your pants. Montana has such great patterns, but I have never really looked at this one closely as the jacket style would not suit me. Now after seeing your pants I really want this pattern. Reading your review it seems you did not have to do much in the way of alterations - the knee section hits in the right place - I'm curious - you appear to be similar in size to me - what was the inseam length?
Also the pants look semifitted straight leg and not skinny formfitting - what was the final leg width you acheived? I just love them.

ITAdmin said... Athene, I usually have an inseam of 31"-33" depending on the pants style and shoes I'm planning to wear them with. Here's the deal with my legs. I'm only 5'6", but have relatively long legs. Specifically, I'm long from waist to knee; if the bottom half of my leg was as long as the top half, I'd be 6'1". So I almost always have to lengthen shorts, cropped pants, and shorter skirts. All that to say that on these pants, the top-half length was perfect. Full length on the green pair was also fine with a 1-inch hem, I think because they have more "recovery" built in to the fabric. The white pair I shortened about 3/4' before hemming. I decided to cut that directly off the bottom because of the tapering. If you look closely at the two pairs of pants, you can see that the green ones are slightly more tapered at the hem. As to the width, the biggest--ahem, the most shapely--part of my thigh measures about 22". The white pants are probably 24" in that area and 19" or so at the bottom. Hope that info will help you. The pants aren't hard to make; it's all the up-front measuring that's a little tricky.

VERY helpful review - I have this pair altered on tissue for length (I think my legs are shorter than yours!) and realized I would absolutely HAVE to do a muslin, and starting thinking it was too young a style for me, etc - so put it aside. Your versions convinced me to pull it out again as they look SO fabulous on you. Totally wonderful job and thanks again for a great review. 4/15/09 11:53 AM
