Adorable dress! I'll have to see about getting this pattern for my daughters. I don't see any reason why you couldn't cut the straps along the length of the fabric, I've done it many times when a long pattern piece wouldn't fit along the width of the fabric.

When I did this dress my fabric wasn't wide enough either, so I pieced together, but it was striped fabric so therefore easily hidden. I wouldn't want to get the huge piece at the bottom off grain...maybe it wouldn't hang and twirl nicely, depending on the fabric weight. Really cute dress for summer...I'm sure your daughter loves it!
