I love this pattern, too. I have made several of the boxers and pajama bottoms. Like you, I don't do the elastic in the casing but use the sew-though kind on the waistband. DH loves them. I would say that the boxers are kind of wide legged, better for sleeping in rather than use as underwear.

I agree with you: the casing method is a poor comparison to the ziz-zag and then turn and stitch method. Once I tried the zig-zag and turn and stitch method, I have used it on all the patterns that call for elasticised waistbands since. Why fumble with a casing when you can end up with a waistband that will never roll!?
