I love this... I agree, a great project for a beginner group. You could get quite different effects just by using different ribbons.

To answer some of your questions: most ribbons usually come in 7/8" and 1 1/2" widths. The most common manufacture, Offray, offers grograin, single faced polyester satin and double faced polyester satin ribbon in those widths. So, I am not sure why the pattern asked for 1" riboon. Thank you for the review, I am looking for a project for my Girl Scout troop.

What an adorable project. Havent seen the dress you made to go with this but this is a perfect holiday or evening bag for all ages. Yours really does look better that the pattern pic.
