Having sewn costumes for all kinds of productions, I know that you can make a great salsa dress from this fabric. In viewing the pattern, I would think there must be a corset-like foundation built in to the dress, to help it stay put. If you are careful about fitting that area to your shape comfortably, the skirt should flow nicely from it. My experience is that the more you pay attention to the foundation of a garment, the better it looks and feels. So I'd suggest not skimping on the boning and fitting details of the dress bodice, which surely must be in there somewhere. One of the drawbacks that I can see, though, is that you need to be prepared for your fabric's wrong side to show, especially as you dance the night away. I am only mentioning it because - from my usual perspective of the stage, seeing the contrast of right side/wrong side can be an interesting visual - but sometimes, up close and personal, the wrong side of a fabric may not give you the look you want. I notice that the wrong side of your fabric seems grayish in the photo and sort of dull compared to your metallic side. But it isn't a deal breaker. I'd say go for it. Make a muslin first for testing the foundation of the dress and take your time. It will be an adventure. Best of luck!

I've sewn this dress already so I might have to be in the "Are you crazy for trying this alterations" category, but I'm curious to see your version of it. My main concern would be that with the 4 (or was it 5?) layers that this dress asks for, you will be too hot in it. My gf said she sweated all night in it, even though hers was made of chiffon. Good luck to you!
