I find it very interesting that KS patterns are so classic that a pattern you started using in 1994 is still in the catalog. In 1987 I used a KS boys' shorts pattern to make "jams" for my then-9-year-old son. Soon there were neighborhood boys lined up at my front door holding pieces of fabric, asking if I could make some for them. KS patterns for kids are great!KS

thanks for this info. I 'm going to make some for my grandsons. They are skinny also. There ages are 3 and 7. How much shorter did you make the elastic than the waist measurement. My grandsons waist are 21 inches. What would you cut the elastic size. thanks doris

Doris - I cut the elastic an inch shorter when I made size 4, then 2 inches shorter when I made size 8 for the really skinny son. For my other son, who is less skinny I cut 1/2 inch to 1 inch shorter. If you are making size 4 for a skinny 3 year old, I

Wow this really speaks for tracing off patterns doesn't it? I'd say you've gotten your moneys worth out of this one. I just got this pattern myself and I'm eager to try it.

I've used this pattern, too. I must say that it is great. I made it considerably longer though. The child I made them for requested swimtrunks to his knees so that's what I did. I used a cotton hawaiian print poplin for the outer, and some athletic (read uniform) type fabric for the lining. He measured perfect for the size eight so that's what I made. They fit him perfect, exactly how he wanted them. I strongly reccomend this pattern, too. The fit is definately there, it's just a matter of adjusting length to the current style. I also used a shoelace for the tie. Between that, my serged seams, and carefull topstitching the onlything that gives them away as home made is that I matched up the print on the front and side seams.

Had to laugh, Starleigh. Unmatched prints always bother me, although so much RTW is unmatched.
