Pattern Description:
Unisex Child's, Teens', and Adults' pants, top, slippers and remote control holser.
Pattern Sizing:
I made a child size 4-5 pajama top and pants. This pattern runs really large with tons of ease.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, except for the few embellishments I added. Front Back
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Very easy.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The V neck is not too low. This is the second time I have used it. I made another set of pajamas for my 9 year old last year. Changing things on it is really easy and the finished product looks like many RTW pajamas.
Fabric Used:
Flannel
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:
1. I do not like putting binding on neck edges so for the back neck edge I serged then rolled the serged edge to the inside and double topstitched. Then I stitched the front to the back at the shoulders.
2. I did 'faux' piping at the front seam and at the arm edges. I got this idea from looking at many RTW pajamas. It is so easy! All you do is take a ~ 1 1/2" strip of fabric and iron it in half lengthwise. Pin it to the top piece where it meets the yoke, raw edges together. Baste it on, then stitch the yoke to the top piece. Top stitch all the layers so the piping lays flat. (Close up view)
3. I added this faux piping to the sleeve edges. I just serged it on before adding the sleeve to the garment. Then I rolled the seam to the inside and top stitched it down.
4. My daughter wanted capri length pants so we modified those to her liking.
5. Because my daughter is so skinny and I knew that this pattern had too much ease, I place the pattern about 3/4 inch from the fold for the front and back before cutting. I modified the yoke piece so it would match by taking a small pinch about halfway between the left and the right.
On the other cotton pajamas I made with this pattern, I made many other changes: I added a band to the bottom of the shorts and changed up the fabrics I used throughout the outfit. (See here)
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I've already sewn this pattern twice and will probably do it again!
Conclusion:
My 7 year old wanted some "peace" themed pajamas to wear for "pajama day" at school today. I was able to whip these up in less than 3 hours from cutting the fabric to final product. Great beginner pattern!
