Although the first Folkwear Cocoon Coat pattern went oop a while ago, they have a new pattern, the Sunburst Cocoon Coat, which is available - not sure what exactly the differences are in the two patterns. I'm planning on making the long Sunburst coat next month in black silk velvet, thanks for the timely review!

Beautiful coat Annika. I have made this one also and it is spectacular. Mine is also velvet. It will be interesting to hear how the newer pattern differs. Let us know, Nikki.

How elegant! I've just been reading a history of 20th century fashion so it's very interesting to see a modern interpretation of Poirot through your use of that fabric. Maybe I'd better check out the folkwear site ...

Your coat is fabulous! I do love Folkwear patterns.

Nikki - the Sunburst cocoon coat takes about 8 yards of fabric and doesn't drape as elegantly as the Poiret. The Poiret cocoon coats takes only 5 yards!!!

Gorgeous. Is this the Poiret pattern after the Metropolitan Museum? I tried to get this on ebay - and it went to $75! I should have gone for it.

What a beautiful choice of fabrics and colors. I have always favored Folkwear patterns for their authentication. You did a beautiful job!

That it is just so fun!

Annika, that is just stunning! I seem to recall a picture of an original Poiret coat that was made of real leopard skin. For several reasons, I like yours even better. :) -Ann

Beautiful coat, simply stunning. I would love to have the pattern - too bad it's OOP

Looks totally FABULOUS! I was searching for this OOP pattern for ages and finally found it (I wanted the real Poiret version, not the newer and quite modified Sunburst version). Seeing yours makes me even more enthusiastic about making it soon. Love your fabric choices! Your tips will also come in handy when I construct mine.

Desperately searching for this OOP pattern. Even if it's already cut. I can resize it. Thanks in advance if someone has one available.

I've been searching for this OOP pattern, and have run into many others who want it, too. Well guess what? I just received an email from Folkwear. They've determined that, with some slight title page changes, they have copyright clearance to put this back into production. They hope to have it available by early July 2008. It will be under the same name & item number. So keep a watch out for it. They asked me to help spread the word - Yay!!! Other OOP's that will be coming back include: #508 Traveling Suit. Later on this year, we will also re-publish #502 Russian Cossack Uniform and #506 Equestriennes.

THANK you so much for the photo. The pattern its self doesnt have a photo of the front--just the back. I realize, also, from both your review and photo, that drapey type fabric is best. I dont think the inside instructions are clear concerning "sewing the sleeves."Was very confused by the shape of the cut out fabric. Had to keep looking back and forth from fabric to the printed pattern .Once I "got it", it was an easy one to sew. I used rayon fabric. Love your velvet one, no surprise all your friends want one too.

This pattern has been re-printed by Folkwear and is again available; I watched on ebay as examples of the original went as high as $75!
