WOW...Where do I even start to write a review for this. My daughters friend wanted to be a mermaid, and made a sketch of what she thought it should be like and I went from there.
Back 1 Back 2 Twirl
I had to dye the bodice fabric with fabric paint...it was going to be a solid color, but when it was drying (I hung it in the shower) it folded over on itself and created the unique coloring....I was not going to drive and buy more fabric so I went with it. The final effect was a great look.
For the bra...I actually used a strapless bra and hand drapped the fabric and stitched it on...I started with a rough cut using a simplicity pattern that was not going to work...or at least give me the effect that I wanted so I just started moving things around until I was satisfied.
The skirt is made of many squares of fabric...folded in a triangle twice...it was fraying so bad and there were so many I just sat at the serger and finished the edges....then hand placed them starting from the bottom of the skirt.
The ROUND fin....is actually a BIG circle of fabric layered 3 times with different textures.
Sugie was so pleased with her costume when it was done. The pictures dont do her or the costume justice and I am so happy I could make it for her. |
