| Pattern Description:
The color and pattern on this short dress in thick sweater-knit with hood and kimono sleeves will certainly turn heads. There's enough room for a pullover underneath.
Pattern Sizing:
36-42. I graded down to a 34.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
It looks a lot like the model photo and line drawing.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Most of instructions were easy to follow. I had to read the part about the underflap about fifteen times until I figured out what they want you to do. Here's a synopsis (there are more details with pictures on my blog): cut out the front on the fold but then slice it from the top at CF to the marking at CF, sew together the CB of the hood, sew your facing material (they recommend twill tape, I used ribbon) starting and ending at the CF marking to the right side, create an underlap piece by doubling the facing material and attaching then to the left facing, fold under the original facing and topstitch it, and the underflap with extend into CF. Does that make sense? I hope so. If not, check out my blog because I put some detailed pictures there.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the coziness (is that a word?) of this dress. It's like wearing a warm, wool blanket. I disliked the directions when I didn't understand them. Now that I understand what was happening, I'll probably use this technique on other things.
Fabric Used:
A wool/polyester sweater knit. It's fantastic. I used the opposite side that I used on this sweater I made a while back. I bought a whole bolt of this when I found it. I have about 11 yards left. You guys think you have a stashing problem . . .
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made no alterations. Wait, I traced it with a longer hem because it looked short but I ended up shortening it. I was scared that it would be too boxy and contemplated making it just a tad tighter. I'm glad that I didn't. It's not a look I normally go for but I really like it.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I may sew this again in a shorter length so it's more tunic-y. It's super comfortable. I do recommend it to other especially if they have a thick bulky sweater knit.
Pictures: Front, back (do you love these DUO boots as much as I do???), and side.
