The way I took care of that is something I read in Betzina or FFRP and what I did was take in the seam in equal amounts from 1) the crotch curve down and 2) just below the hip on the outside seam. It is critical (as I understand from reading) to keep this reduction balanced on inside and outside seams or the leg will twist. Also, when I do this adjustment, I do it in a basting stitch and take a bit at a time until I am happy with the fit. Otherwise my legs are almost always swallowed up whole and lost in an unaltered pattern. You are off to a great start here! 1/27/10 10:33 AM

Great Idea to use inexpensive fabric while you are at trial and error. I hope you will post more when you get the results you want, and tell us what worked. Good luck! 1/27/10 5:18 PM
Heidi Ho said... I really like your pants!! I went through many trial and errors myself until I finally discovered Burda. I am between sizes (it sounds like you are too) and have had better results using the smaller size and instead of sewing side and inseams at 5/8" I sew them at 1/2" with all others being at 5/8". When I make the larger size and try to take them in more I haven't been quite as happy. 1/27/10 11:40 PM

racehorse said... perservering, I'm not sure what size you should use, although I can say that my size 10 RTW jeans are a bit loose on me. I get conflicting numbers when I do my own measurements, so I'm thinking this isn't a good indicator (for me). 1/28/10 11:33 AM

I have enjoyed seeing and reading about your sewing and trying to learn from you and everyone who kindly shares the knowledge they gain. Racehorse, congratulations on all the garments you've been sewing with increasing success. Hopefully soon I'll be able to restart. 1/28/10 11:47 AM
