Pattern Description: slightly flared dress, princess seams, cap sleeves
Pattern Sizing: 8-16 I cut size 12 bodice with a size 14 skirt (then adjusted back down to 12 or smaller on skirt)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, it looked like the line drawing. My version has a slightly higher v neck Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. I often ad lib with instructions, but I followed these very carefully. I found the instructions clear and quite easy to follow.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I found the instructions were mostly user-friendly and I love the way the dress has turned out despite my changes.
I wasn't keen on the amount of gathering at the front and the puffiness this created. Having said that, I used a fabric that wasn't suggested and doesn't drape softly, so can't really knock the pattern for that.
I found the neckline fell far too low for my taste.
When I made adjustments to the dress, I found myself thinking that perhaps it wasn't such a good idea for the skirt front panel to be the same size for multiple sizes. I don't know why I thought this but instinctively it felt wrong that this particular piece would end up the same size with the same amount of gathering on sizes 8 through to 16
Fabric Used: Liberty tana lawn 'strawberry patch'
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Yes, to the v-neck, raised by about 5 cm. (after dress had already been completed as it was only wearable with a camisole underneath) Also cut pattern down at least one size on the skirt. I am usually, consistently, a 12 on top and 14+ on the bottom. I always cut at least a 14 in a skirt but on this occasion I could have kept the whole dress at a 12 then scaled down. On the whole though, I really liked the design and only made what I would consider to be fitting changes.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes to both. It's a lovely dress, the style suits me and it's very easy to wear now I've made changes. If / when I make it again, I'll be making further changes to the length of the bodice and midriff. That part really needs to be longer on me. I would recommend this pattern to anyone who was confident about making fitting changes if necessary.
Conclusion: I tend to take a bit of a reckless approach to making patterns up and often end up with a loose approximation to the original design but I was careful with the instructions on this and it paid off.
