I love this skirt. The fabric you chose looks very high end, and is perfect for this style. And, I think you look lovely!!!

I actually think that the flare of the hem is flirty! The color is great! As you become more familiar with sewing, you will learn which fabrics work best with which styles; the pattern envelope should give workable suggestions. I think some of the fit issues you mention are more than likely because of the heavier fabric.....I'd try it again in a softer fabric. Keep sewing!
