What were you hoping for as a result? Was it just generally too large or had you expected something prettier?
From what I understand of these things the underdress is supposed to be shapeless (like a chemise), is it not? The shaping comes from the overdress/bodice part on top of it.

I also did this pattern, and I did NOT like the gathered neckline. The sleeve tops are at the neckline, which made it difficult to tell where the neckline actually was located. I thought I was missing pieces, since the shoulders are ROUNDED at the top. The instructions are poor or are simply eliminated in places.
