I love it. Your friend is lucky. It looks sweet and comfortable. You are probably right about making longer slits. If she uses the gown while lying down, longer slits make it easier without having to yank the gown around to get the slits right.

Nice review. Good to know about the extra under the arms. Long openings are good, especially if the wearer is large-busted. If you make it again, you might want to make two openings, and pleat the extra fabric to cover them. General opinion from the nursing moms I know is that two side slits are easier than a central slit. All that being said, the nightgown is gorgeous, and the wearer will surely appreciate it.

I saw this pattern with reference to "Smocked Togs." Maybe that's the pattern maker?
