I've found cotton cords don't tend to untie themselves as much as ribbons. Every chemise I've got with ribbons for drawstrings has to be double-knotted, but the ones with cotton cords don't. It's the difference between about $0.05/yd and $0.60/yd, but the extra dollar is usually worth it to me.
