Fabulous suit! It's not a great style 'even for the more mature and ample, it's a 40s-50s style therefore made to flatter the more mature and ample. So a good choice.
Most likely you're experiencing all this dragging by water weight for 2 reasons 1) lining 2) a bit too much ease. Next time consider not lining (you can test the fabric on your hand in the sink) and make sure you're using negative ease, in proportion to the stretch of the fabric.
