Something that helps with buttonholes on stretchy knits is to back them with tear-away backing (or even typing paper) but ALSO top them with a square of Solvy that's bigger than the buttonhole. You can see your buttonhole markings through the Solvy, and it prevents that "fishmouth" stretch-out at the ends of the buttonhole.
