The topstitching makes these look RTW. These are one of the few pair of high-waist, wide-leg jeans that aren't tight/whiskering at the crotch area (you see this even in the jeans' online shopping photos!). I think you did an excellent job fitting these, despite your problems.

Nice! When I saw the review I thought how can it be I missed those pants in Burda? But of course, you added the cute pockets. Can you let me know what the title of that 1930s sewing book is?
