|Oops. Nothing new. I'm trying to clean up old reviews and forgot to check that box at the bottom.|
Note: I made these French terry “beach” pants for 6 yo dgd, to go with the beach tunic cover-up and swimsuit, reviewed on the site. We’re meeting dgd and family in Hawaii this summer.
Warning As Lou warned us Unless you have a special source, you probably don’t want to use stretch terry or French terry. It’s so pretty, but sheds and pills badly after washing. Unfortunately, I bought too much and so must now find some uses for it!
Pattern Description: Cropped pants, shorts, top and sundress.
Pattern Sizing: 2,3,4,5,6,6x. I made size 6.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I believe so, but I didn’t add bows.
Were the instructions easy to follow? No. The instructions to sew the waistband casing and elastic were unnecessarily long and confusing. I studied briefly, then said “phooey on this” (or some similar expletive) and used Kwik Sew’s easy method, except didn’t overlap the elastic—I butted it and sewed it securely several times with a three-step zigzag stitch; then, divided and marked elastic and “casing” part of waistband into fourths; matched up the marks and serged the elastic onto the waist. Then turned it to wrong side and topstitched in place. Soooo easy!
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Liked: 2 pattern pieces…..It worked for a simple beach coverup.
Fabric Used: . Stretch terry, from Hancock’s. See warning above—not recommended. Pattern calls for wovens, and I was aware that the sizing might be too large for stretch terry, but since this is for beach wear, I thought it would be close enough.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: Didn’t make any this time, but in the future I want to copy some cute cropped pants, with elastic hems, decorative bows, ruffles, etc around the bottom seen while snoop shopping in upscale children’s boutiques--not sure I’ll make them in nylon, though.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Probably will sew again, but I have to check the fit first and tweak the sizing for pants, rather than beach wear.
Conclusion OK for cool mornings or evenings playing on the beach—that is, if there are any cool parts of the day in Hawaii in July!
