FITTED (HAHA, read on..) Wool Coat with pintuck detailing to front & back panels Pattern Sizing:
14-20 Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Its starting to look like the picture on the envelope.... Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions are easy to follow however I felt like there is not enough information for this level of project. Read below for my problems on the actual construction. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I was drawn to this pattern purely because of the tucks. Thinking this would be the hardest part to get right I braced myself for the worst. Yes the tucks are tricky & mine are certainly not 100% & Id probably fail miserably if I worked for any of these Haute Couture houses That being said, the tucks are done & Im certainly not going back to change them.
This project has been a nightmare. Nowhere on the pattern envelope or on the instruction sheet does it say that 6 3/4" have been allowed for EASE. So once I had persevered through the tucks & stitched the side panels on & the sides together, did I discover that this FITTED coat feels like 12 sizes too big. Not knowing Vogue have allowed this much ease, I spent an hour double checking that I had prepared & cut out the pieces correctly etc. Not finding any problems, I contact Vogue Customer Serv to find out if they had any problems with the sizing on this pattern. A prompt response NO. This is when they disclosed the amount of ease allowed on a FITTED garment. I was horrified! So I have had to take the shears to the sides & the sleeves to alleviate this problem.
I am 11 or so hours into this project & i am frustrated to no end. The only thing keeping me going at this point is the fact that I cannot abandon a project that is so far & fabric so expensive. Im at the stage that I would abandon it had the fabric been MUCH MUCH cheaper. Anyway, I will sit back, take a deep breath (perhaps a cuppa tea will help) & continue on...
