Can you pin then handsew the gussets? I had to do that on my vintage dress

I agree, hand~sewing is a pain but well worth it sometimes. And actually it's easier than trying to get the fabric & seams to behave while wrangling it underneath a presser foot! I had to recently do a lot of hand-basting on a hat I made and even though I didn't want to, it made the whole thing come out far better and was actually easier too. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I need to be more patient with the hand-sewing and I'm sure it will come out better. By the time I tried it by hand yesterday I had already spent a couple hours trying on the machine, but today I'll start fresh and maybe that will help. Thank you :)

I had to hand sew the gussets as they were difficult to line up properly.
