Hi Sunmaid8 I too am a beginner sewer having only made a handful of garments that I actually wear out in public :) But one thing that I do to make sure I have a better fit is checking the finished garment measurements printed on the pattern envelope and patter pieces and then I compare them to my body measurements and then I determine how much ease and need in the garment and I adjust up or down from there. I hope that helps. 12/23/10 5:25 PM
MarianS said... I think it looks great on you! Does the fabric have any stretch to it? If so, the stretch would make it turn out bigger. The "big four" patterns always allow a lot of ease, and I usually go down a size from my actual measurements or use 1" seams where I want less ease. 12/25/10 6:14 PM
