Also I have a LOT more problems with waving (stretching out along the seams) when I use a SM with a small zigzag instead of my serger. BTW, you can control the neckline hem waving. It sounds like you staystiched, but you can also use fusible interfacing tape in the hem allowance and just inside the hem--that's fusing two lines of tape exactly next to one another.
