I don't have this pattern so I'm not sure, but I would guess that with this particular design, you might be able to make the buttonholes first. Because of the bias binding, you don't have to flip the facing out and sew it around the neck right sides together, which having buttonholes already would make really difficult (does that make sense?).
(I did use an industrial buttonholer in school but yes, most of the time we did have to do the buttonholes at or pretty near the end, depending on the design of the garment. The buttonhole machine didn't have problems with fabric thickness. Some industrial buttonhole machines cut the buttonhole open at the same time, but the one at school was a kind that didn't, probably for safety reasons) 3/13/11 6:22 AM
