Hi Renren- the lightning stitch is a narrow stretchy stitch that looks like a very skinny lightning bolt. It's on the Janome machine I have, as well as many Bernina machines. It is not as bulky as the standard triple-stretch stitch. I often use it in place of a stretch stitch or narrow zig zag on knits when I am not serging. It works nicely on seams and hems when I want stretch along with strength.
