That's an interesting experiment. I have a New Look pattern which is similar - it has inseams and front & back seams running down the leg - it would give you lots of flexibility on fitting.

What a neat idea. That worked out great for you. I have to just get to work on regular pants patterns, never mind adjusting them yet!
