Belinda - I'm about to put the collar on this top and I thought I'd check to see if anyone had attached it from the other side which I imagine would be hidden by the cowl??? I still have to think it through and am about to pull out another cowl top I made a few years ago to see what I did on that. Imagine my surprise to see that you'd just finished the same pattern. I love your cream fabric. Having looked at a close up of your top I see that I have to do the neckline as written as you can see the join at the back. That makes life easier. I'll follow your lead and coverstitch the seam though. Thanks for the tip. I'm glad you think it's not that close fitting because I've used a one way knit that doesn't have as much stretch as I initially thought. Thanks for the review.

Maree, Sorry I can't PM so I'll answer here. I would attach the collar exactly as written in the instructions because you can see the neckline seam in places when the top is worn. Especially around the back neck and upper front neck. The only place the neckline seam is completely hidden is the centre front where the drape is. Funny that we are sewing this same top at the same time. I finished mine only an hour a go, after sewing most of the afternoon. Good luck with yours.

Beautiful top and helpful review, as usual. This looks likes a good pattern and thanks for the reminder. For those of us not familiar with the metric system, if I used the online conversion table correctly, 1 cm is about 3/8 inch; 2.5 centimeters is about an inch; .8 cm is about 5/16 inch.

Thanks for this very helpful review - or should I say reassuring? I recently made this top, and I'm happy with it - but had some of the same fit issues you describe. I thought that maybe the 4-way stretch fabric I used was to blame - and maybe it still is. But not entirely it sounds like!

I am super-slow at getting to this pattern... it's been on my stack for years now. Just saw your lovely white version. I'd buy that in a heartbeat if it were in a boutiquer here! Off to check my stash for a white knit... :)
