Oh, I forgot to mention, this is a very conservative school - the girls' uniforms are either a jumper for the lower grades or skirts for the upper school. And yes, the hem is at the knee! No pants nor uncovered shorts.

I think the idea of wearing shorts under the skirts makes a lot of sense. And the price you made them for is certainly right. I'll bet my DD would like some sleep shorts, and I could use up short lengths of cotton knit. Thanks for the review. Yup - that did it. They are certainly respectable -with or without a skirt. Do you think the cut is suitable for running shorts, too?

I bet if you added small slits to the sides for a little extra ease/decorative style. They are not tight, but not as full as the pattern drawing leads you to believe. The circumference at the hem is 26 1/2"
