Skye said... Love the fabricyour top looks really great. Thank you for your review I have made a muslin of this top and used clear elastic in the front seams which made it a bit stiff. Thanks for the detail on the FBA I need to do that and wasn't sure how now I know. Do you think that you could elimniate the centre seam and do the ruching with narrow clear elastic?? 9/4/04 4:09 PM
Gigi Louis said... Thank you all! Skye, you can't completely eliminate the CF seam because it's curved to give you more ease and length for the ruching. However, you could feed elastic into the casings and just secure it top and bottom. On a lightweight fabric you *might* also be able to just zigzag over elastic right up the middle. I'd prefer to feed it through the casing though - more control. 9/4/04 4:14 PM

It's nice to see that someone (much) more experienced than me agrees with me about the less good features of this pattern (like the skimpy instructions and hem allowances). Thanks for all the tips. I'm thinking of trying this top again now that I've recovered from my previous experience - because it is cute and a nice shape, you just have to put some thought into how to put it together and alterations that may be required (like length and more appropriate seam allowances). 9/4/04 6:10 PM

Slinky looks great in this style--I did mine in (purple too!) interlock and it's waaaay too thick. Really good tip on the neckline--it wasn't good as it was. 9/5/04 3:12 AM

This would be great for my DD who just had a baby, is nursing, and must return to teaching in about 5 weeks. What kind of adjustment do you think could be made to raise the neckline? Or should DD wear this only on weekends? lol 9/5/04 2:47 PM
