JDpenelope said... This skirt is gorgeous--I love the lines. Your alterations (except perhaps the waist!) worked beautifully. There are lots of great Burda patterns, but I'm waiting for more experience--afraid of getting in over my head (again, yet, still). 9/12/04 9:42 PM
Mini said... I was thinking about that facing problem. Claire Schaeffer's Sewing Shortcuts book shows a bound waist finish that can be substituted for a facing. You can use a bias strip of fashion fabric or lining, or a stretch binding to pull in the waist a bit. Chanel used this on skirts without waistbands, and it is worth a try. A narrow elastic "facing" that is done like a lingerie elastic can also work. 9/12/04 11:31 PM

mjl said... Irina, nice skirt. I have a question regarding the Lengthen/Shorten lines. When does one use the hip L/S line as opposed to the lower L/S line. I just need to shorten the length. Do I use both or just the lower one? 9/13/04 11:19 AM

CarolynGM said... mjl -- I used the lower lengthen/shorten line because I have long legs. If you decide to use the upper line, take note of how quickly the side seam tapers inward and make sure it won't be too tight in the hips or upper thigh. The short skirt only has one hip level lengthen/shorten line.
mini- I will check the schaeffer book for the waistband fixes you mentioned. I may have to remove the facing from this one and try one of those techniques -- I have enough fabric left to do something different. 9/13/04 6:04 PM
