KiwiWendy said... i discovered after making the first test shirt, that i really like striped tops. so far i've only used unbalanced stripes. a fisheye dart is a () shaped dart in the middle of a garment, that doesn't reach the edge. Usually at the waistline, though I have seen a skirt that had a couple of small ones below the knee. 9/28/04 10:00 PM

Sherril Miller said... Wendy, I'm loving your striped shirts. I didn't think they'd work for us fluffy gals, but the strips are slimming. Just a warning when you do the swayback adjustment: put in a back center seam. You'll be happy you did. Also, add the amount you remove back to the hem length. You see that the hem hangs even now and when you remove the length in the center back, your blouse hem won't be even any longer. Also, I have a feeling that your blouses would be more flattering if the sleeve length didn't fall at the exact point of the hem. When your arms are down, the combination of the hem and sleeve width together tend to widen the hips. Try a longer length hem or shorter 3/4 length sleeves. I think you might not have liked the cuffs because they just added that much more width at the hip level. 10/9/04 12:49 PM
KiwiWendy said... I really like the neckline ... a jewel neck looks dire on me (both bust & neck issues). my neck isn't short, but it's wide so appears short if I'm not careful. I hadn't worn stripes for about 20 years, and the lucky find of striped sale fabric has converted me. think it's the square head (square hands/feet etc) on a round body that lets it work on me. and geometric shapes suit me better than florals. Sherril, you're right on the money! I knew the cuffs just made my hips wider (and wider), and that the sleeve & body should finish at different points, otherwise why not just keep the cuffs :-). i'd added a CB seamline, but didn't add to the back the length after the swayback adjustment. d'oh. the next one will be better. 10/10/04 9:20 PM
