I just pulled out this pattern, but was dismayed at everyone's dismal reviews at how the skirt attaches. However by looking at the tissue, the back pleat is achieved by slashing to the small circle and when you spread those top skirt edges to sew along them bodice bottom, the fabric forms a natural curve, which looks like a pleat on the outside. Sorry to hear things went so rough for you!
