I got this pattern because it had lots of ideas for using up my fabric remnants. This is one of the larger bags I made with vintage fabric I found at a yard sale (the striped fabric) and canvas.

I have also made several of the smaller zippered bags. All the projects are quick and easy. Great for using up stash and great beginners projects. I made this bag in just a few hours and it is extremely sturdy with its wrap around handles. The contrasting fabric forms pockets around the bag. I also added a pocket inside, on the lining: I added decorative stitching to the canvas.

EXCEPT:

This instructions are for very minimal finishing. Lining instructions are NOT included. If you made the projects according to the directions, you would have some ugly raw seams inside your bags! The tote handle would be a mess made by the pattern instructions, but anyone with even a tad of sewing experience can improve it. Ditto the lining, I wouldn't even bother to make a bag without it. But it seems remiss that lining instructions aren't included. Overall the designer seems to assume that someone making these projects would not want to take the time to make them well so they have given shortcuts which don't give the best results.

If you have basic sewing experience, you can easily make very nice projects from these patterns but you need to take it a step further than the instructions that are given. I will probably make several more projects from this pattern and add my own touches.

EDITED TO ADD: I have now made this bag half a dozen times. It is a quick, fun project and easy to add various features. On the last one I added pockets on the inside lining and also a keychain (a tab with a swivel clasp) inside. My DIL loves it! The most time consuming part of this project is the long, long strap. (The bag itself literally goes together in minutes!) On my next bag I might purchase 1" webbing to use for the strap to save time.

Love your bag! The fabric is great. Thanks for the warning about the pattern - I've made several bags and can't imagine not lining them. Lovely job on yours-well done!

Great bags! Strange that they didn't have lining instructions, although I have seen similar high-end bags with Hong Kong finished interior seams.
