I had to come back to tell you that I have a feeling that you made the skirt too big. Mine doesn't gather like that (check my review - look for 5047).

Thank you for your input, Mary. It is possible I made a larger size than necessary - I made a 2X per my hip measurements for the pattern (which surprised me since I usually wear a 3X in pants) and this is what I came up with. I followed all of the instructions for seam allowances as well. I'm fairly new to making modern clothing for myself (I started sewing doing medieval costuming) so I'm still learning. I do really like that it's very swishy and it's quite comfortable to wear. Thank you everyone for your comments. It really encourages me to try more. I'm not fond of a lot of the colors and styles in RTW right now so I'm hoping I can remedy that by making my own clothes.
