I've made this top with the collar. I think your size issue stems from using slinky instead of a woven which the pattern calls for. I like this pattern, but since the styling is so distinct it is not one that you make over and over. To be honest, I think your top looks really cute on you!

Simplicity often seems to run large anyway, and adding a knit fabric ... Oh well. It does look like an older style with that fabric, although I wouldn't say "grandma-ish"! Pair it with a pair of pants with side-slits, maybe?
