Pattern Description:
Women's or girl's long-sleeved pullovers with set-in shawl collar or hood.
Pattern Sizing:
27 sizes, girls 2 to women's 22. I made the size 5 view A - shawl collar - for my thin 6 1/2 yo dd.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
It sure did.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, pretty much. I thought that there were a few times where the directions had you going back and forth between things. I also had a little trouble putting the shawl collar on correctly but it turned out fine in the end!
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I really like that there are so many sizes in one pattern. I didn't like the way the collar looks at the bottom, I resewed it and it ended up looking worse!
Fabric Used:
Organic sweatshirt fleece from Fabric.com in a pretty turquoise color. The only thing I was disappointed with in the fabric is that it was listed as a midweight and I think for a sweatshirt fleece it is really lightweight. I will be making this up in a heavier fabric next time.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I added 2 inches to the sleeve length. I should have added another inch in the sleeves and a couple of inches in the body for my long, thin girl. I haven't sewn the hem on the sleeves yet but will just hand sew a narrow rolled hem for that and I just turned under the bottom hem 1/2 inch and sewed with a double needle from the top after basting so as to know where to sew.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, definitely. I have one cut out out in matching fabric for myself. And I will sew more up for dd for sure.
Conclusion:
I love the look of this, casual and comfy yet not as sloppy as a regular sweatshirt. Nice fit and great results. This was a great intro to Jalie patterns for me.

I think the 1/4" seam allowance does not allow the bottom of the collar to be sewn easily, working in such a crammed area trying to get the stitching even and straight ... I thought my next top I would try a 5/8 seam allowance. 1/14/12 11:52 AM
