Pattern Description: This is a Disney licensed pattern based on Rapunzel's dress in the animated film "Tangled".
Pattern Sizing:Can't comment. My GD-to-be will be given this dress at her birthday party this week-end.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?Pretty much. Some of the trim differs.
Were the instructions easy to follow?Pretty standard; nothing unusual.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I bought fabric based on a size 3 & used size 4 for the bodice. Length was between the 3 & 4. Depending on the fabric, there was 1/2 to 3/4 yard extra. What a nuisance! Lucky I used coupons.
I did not use the neck facings. Instead, I attached the lining at the neck and turned, one less step. Then I tacked the lining at a few point along the waist seam.
With ravelly polyester fabric, lots of French seams. This dress is fully lined. I like that because it will be getting a lot of use as a play dress-up dress.
Fabric Used:Fom JoAnn's evening wear collection, lilac and pink polyester satins for bodice and skirt; sheer lilac for lower sleeve and overskirt; some inexpensive lining fabric in another lt. purple shade.
This dress uses 3 to 4 different fabrics and 3 different trims. It is a fiddly costume to make, especially the sleeve top where they have you sew down 8 pieces of ribbon onto the sleeve. To make it a bit easier, I used a thin strip of stitch witchery to hold the ribbon in place. Beats pinning and having the ribbon slip all over everywhere. Even with coupons, al the trims needed can add up. I opted for less pricey whenever it was possible.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I skipped the netting petticoat that gets sewn onto the lining, between the dress skirt and the lining. The child who gets this hates anything scratchy and the dress really did not seem to need more fullness.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
This was a lot of work and very fiddly. It's not the type of thing I would want to make again, although for a special grandaughter...
Conclusion: The final dress is just adorable. It's just a lot of work. |
