I don't know - this doesn't look too big to me, considering that it's a coat to be worn over other clothing. But I agree with you about the fabric you had planned to use. You wouldn't be able to see the style lines in the black nearly as well as a pale fabric.

I always wish Burda would print the finished measurements so we could figure out the ease before tracing. The coat looks large on the model too so they must be aiming for a mid-winter coat to fit over many other layers. But a good use of old curtains :)
