Pattern Description:
Close-fitting, A-line, above mid-knee length, lined dress with front & back pleats, gathers, back darts, bias short sleeves, side seam pockets, invisible zip, scooped neckline & dee V-neckline.
I dont agree that its close-fitting or A-line, the rest I agree!

Pattern Sizing:
I used 14-20, cut the 14 but took in quite a bit.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Overall easy to follow, tricky in some areas.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
First off I liked the low V back & pleated & gathered sleeves. I disliked that initially it looked rather frumpy...however luckily as I progressed, it started looking better.

Fabric Used:
I used this wild purple, aubergine, blue with hints of mustard fabric purchased in Canada last year at Fabricland. I had to have a piece of this fabric & I knew instantly what I would use it for...it just seemed to work well for this pattern. I cant say exactly what it is but I would say its a poly mix of some sort.
The lining is a black pongee.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I pleated my sleeves in the other direction because i didnt want the sleeves to hang too much. i wanted them to drape more than hang. Not sure if it made a huge difference. I also used a 8-10 inch zipper rather than what was suggested.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Im not sure if I would sew this again. I think the fabric compliments this dress so if I was to find another wild patterned fabric like this again I might make another.

Conclusion:
I started this project at the beginning of 2011...yes you read that correctly. I have had a hectic year so its been hanging patiently on Poppy waiting for attention Im glad I managed to finish this so I can get going on something new.

Re. the pattern : The shoulder pleats & gathers were a little tricky but worked out well. I also found the overall sizing running much bigger than I expected the 14 to run so I trimmed it down to a 12.
The pockets are not necessary & I battled to get mine to sit properly due to the fabric choice. I may still take these out...
I fused the zipper area before inserting making the fabric more stable for insertion & therefore 1st time was a charm! Im not entirely sure if the zip is actually required. If I was to make this dress again, I would attempt it without the zipper - I think it would work. I also think this dress could have been done with an exposed zipper...you know the kind that is quite popular on the zara garments these days (big exposed metal zipper). think it would look cute if you going for a solid colour version.
Initially the dress looked very frumpy but once you stitch the bodice & skirt together, it takes shape & of course I wear mine with the elasticated belt to cinch in the waist & give more shape.
Husband loves the low back....Go figure

Oh, I LOVE your fabric! And this pattern is such a winner - the deep V at the back is a show stopper. Hope you get lots of wear out of this :)
