Pattern Description:
Sleeveless tank top with embellishments Pattern Sizing:
I made a 12 D Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes - though I used Karen Ball's tip re: sewing swirl pieces RS together and turning - a much better way of finishing the pieces. I also edge-stitched them for better definitiion What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
This was a case of creativity over wearability. I loved the swirls on the front - but a large-ish chest and swirls = a larger-than-desirable profile. Ie this looks fine from straight on but 'large' from the side. This assessment ties in with a recent post by Elizabeth from SEWN and her well-observed differences between fitted sheath dresses and shift dresses on larger busted individuals. Fabric Used:
Very fine cotton batiste - so fine that I had to self line the top. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
On me, this was super boxy. I hoped that the variable cup sizes would address my usual fitting issues (narrower shoulders, larger bust), but I ended up cutting off several cms on the back and side seams...and managed throw the whole thing off grain...But I persisted because I really like the way the swirls turned out. The shoulders are way too wide...I need to try a smaller size and get on with putting Sarah Veblen's PR Online course on FBAs to use! (have managed to select patterns to avoid this, so far...) Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Before I make that decision, I need to make up the basic tank, then take it to my Australian Sewing Guild sewing buddies for advice...Sharon and Alison, in particular, have been marjorily helpful - thank you!
Conclusion: The jury is out on this one....DH says it's overly fussy and hides my figure. I concede that it doesn't create the most flattering Side Silhouette. But I do like it from the front!

I do like your top, too. Maybe a cardigan sweater will make the top look entirely different.

I agree with you on the flounce-big bust issue. I made a second version of this top with the ruffles and the top made me look as if I had a mane. Needless to say, I didn't finish it. I think the ruffles have potential if a much lighter fabric is used, such as a thin mesh knit. I made the view that has the tiered ruffles and it's much more forgiving on a large chest. To prevent the boxy look, I always wear the top belted.

Thanks Lori & Lynelle. Tried both tips...and it works much better!

I love the gingam ruffles, they make a great contrast

Love the ruffle contrast and even though I'm not that large, with a woven that is boxy I will add fitting darts below the bust and put in a side zip.

Thanks Red Dragon & Sharonspils! The gingham is a light poly-georgette-ish fabric - as light and airy as the fine black cotton - so the ruffles (I had 'swirls' stuck in my brain last night!) are quite light and bouncy.Below-bust darts and side zip are great ideas for next time, Sharon. I think I'll try a few small darts in the back neck to see if that reduces shoulder width without looking too gerry-rigged....if it does, I will always wear it with a cardi, as suggested by Lori!
