Wanda, after sewing with the Loes Hinse, Textile Studio and Kwik Sew patterns over the last few months I hate 5/8" seams now. They seem so weird and wasteful. The smaller seam allowances (3/8" and 1/4") are much better especially for collars and curvy areas. I think if you try it a few times you'll get used to it and may find that you prefer it.

count me in for 1/4 and 3/8 seam allowances. I am so lazy that sometimes I will buy Kwik Sew patterns just because the s.a.s are small.

Thanks for the input, both Mudcat and Deepika, on the seam allowances. I know this may be getting off the overall review but what about 5/8" 50 1" allowances for future alterations; and, since I like techniques associated with Couture Sewing that includes nicely finished seams, the smaller seam allowances do not allow for this. I can really accept the smaller seam allowances for collar seams, etc. but not for the side or back seams. So, I guess for now I would stick with increasing the seam allowances when I construct this jacket or make another pattern from Loes' Collection. Please bear in mind that the input you have given is helpful, especially since I really don't like making muslins first. Thanks.

The 3/8" seams don't allow for extra fitting room but you can always add for the first one. Most of these garmets are made to be made up with rayons that finish with a serger since the seams won't stay pressed open anyway. For me, it's a nice clean finish. But I cut extra if I'm worried about size on the first one. Many of these are so easy to sew up totally with a serger after you have fit the pattern, that the smaller seam allowance makes that easier, too. Most dress makers prefer the larger seam allowances but that's because they are fitting so many people and need to allow for that. I've gotten so that a 5/8" seam seems huge, too.
