Pattern Description: From StyleArc website: Jersey cowl neck dress/top with slightly extended shoulder line. Hugging the neckline at the back and falling softly into a front cowl. Suitable for all occasions.
Pattern Sizing: I bought the size 10. This corresponds well to my measurements except for the bust - this is no surprise.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Pretty close; I think mine looks drapier.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions are fair. They are basically a list of step but there are some useful diagrams. However. some things are not explained that would be helpful - such as the best way to sew right angles (the instructions just have the word "mitre" there) and saying how the center back neck seam is sewn together (right sides tog) rather than making the sewist rely on the diagram and common sense. Common sense isn't bad of course and worked well here but the pattern pieces are unusually shaped and a novice sewist might get stumped.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The pattern sewed together very well and was logical. I like a lot about it. I don't care for the way it looks on me - too loose and floppy, I think. Also, I think the cowl is not as flattering on me as the StyleArc Creative Cate is. However, my husband says this one is flattering and the long V makes me look taller. As a 5 foot 4 incher, that is always nice to hear I do think the armhole is a bit low: armhole photo but that isn't something that one would normally see unless I make an effort to point it out.
Fabric Used: Very nice cotton knit; feels like a nice soft worn T-shirt.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I did an FBA. I put in a French dart doing that. I also shortened at the waist an inch (based on other StyleArcs I've made) and that puts the hip curve exactly right on me.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Would I sew it again? I'm not sold on this for me yet. I'll wear it a few times and see if it grows on me.
Conclusion: Nice pattern but maybe not a good one for me.
Thanks for this review JEF, it looks good on you!
