Pattern Description:
Learn to sew skirt pattern in two lengths. Skirt has yoke, a centre back zipper, and optional tie belt. Pattern Sizing:
I used the size 12 pattern size in the C Skirt. The size 12 fit me well and I found I didn't need to make any changes to the length of the skirt. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes - but it definitely looked more voluminous then the pattern pictures. Were the instructions easy to follow?
This is part of Simplicity's learn to sew pattern range and is the first skirt pattern I have attempted. I have never sewed a zipper before or made pockets so I was looking to learn these skills - I thought the instructions were very detailed but as a beginner sewer I thought there could have been a bit more of the 'how' and even the 'why'. I struggled a little with the zipper installation and found the drawings not detailed enough in this area. There was some good info at the beginning about sizing up the pattern. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I used a quilting cotton which doesn't have a great drape and so as a result there is a lot of volume in the back from the gathering. I discovered PR after I made the skirt otherwise I may have taken the advice of other reviewers to take some of the fabric out of the back panels. I loved the fit of this pattern, it sits nicely below the waist and the C/D skirts are a great length. I doubt I would make it in the longer length. Next time I would go with a more flowy fabric too. Like other people said, the pockets are amazingly simple and look good. Fabric Used:
Quilting cotton for both skirt and belt. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Taking some volume out of the back would be as adventurous as I would go. I would (being a pear shape) go for a more solid colour for skirt and use a print fabric for the tie and/or pocket. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes - simple beginner skirt that looks good and as a beginner you can start building some of your sewing skill sets. Conclusion:
Good learning pattern, great staple skirt pattern to have for your wardrobe.
