I did feel a sense of pride (or maybe that should be foolishness!) when you said the neckline was for advanced sewers. Your upper torse is long and wide - in a good way, statuesque - so you can 'carry' the neckline. In this dress you look like you could break some (b-coughs-lls) in the boardroom without batting an eye and still have enough energy left for laughs and a martini with a younger man.
