I have made this dress myself and a lot of your comments chimed with my own experience. I too had to hand stitch the inset to make it lie down flat. Your version looks lovely. I did feel a sense of pride (or maybe that should be foolishness!) when you said the neckline was for advanced sewers. Believe it or not, this was the first dress I ever made! ignorance was most certainly bliss, in this case.

Move over Helen Miren, you look HOT! (laughs) I'm coming to the conclusion that this dress requires a particular body shape. Your upper torse is long and wide - in a good way, statuesque - so you can 'carry' the neckline. In this dress you look like you could break some (b-coughs-lls) in the boardroom without batting an eye and still have enough energy left for laughs and a martini with a younger man. (winks) If you were my competition I'd concede with respect!
