What a nice aunt you are! I'm sure your niece feels like a princess in this beautiful dress.

The only reason the skirt pattern is pieced is to make it possible to cut it out of your typical narrow special occasion fabric. It's not a design element and you made the right call. Of course it would be nice if Simplicity told you that it could be eliminated in a wider fabric. Your niece chose a lovely unusual colour, and you made it into a pretty dress. It would be great to see a modelled shot if you can persuade her!
