I have made leotards but not unitards. However, I did make my son a wrestling singlet and used gripper elastic in the bottom of the legs (copied from a purchased singlet).

I found that the yanking occurs when it's too short from shoulder to crotch, and when the hips are too narrow. YMMV

Great looking suits. My daughter (at age 12) scoffed when I offered to make her the unitard. Nice to see it made up so well!
