The perfect Shirtdress

BB 8-10-12-14, I made the size 8 for a 36 inch bust.

Yes

Yes

Would finish the armholes differently,

I used light to medium weight 100% cotton with a slightly sueded finish. The fabric wrinkles easily, but still was acceptable.

I embroidered the pattern pieces before cutting and sewing, Self fabric belt instead of sash, Embroidered self covered buttons, serged seams and hand-sewn hem.

I have sewn it again, this time in dupioni silk and lined.

I have already made this twice, so I love it. I saw another review here that was beautiful and it seems to be flattering for most. I wore it to a wedding and received many compliments, and it was easy to dance in. The bustline may be a little tighter with the added pockets, but I like leaving the last button open. Overall, the princess seams and collar fit together smoothly. Probably won't ever make the view with sleeves.

Your dress is lovely... call me Perplexed though - you sewing a size 8 for a 36"bust? (yes, I can read/see that you leave the top button undone.... ? and that is all ? can you explain more ... about the ease/measurements....? :)

Hi, I made no adjustments and just went with the size on the pattern. My bust is a 36a and turns into a b with a bra. I have a wide upper torso. It fits fine with it buttoned. The ease comes with the princess seaming, and that is why I mentioned the pockets restricting a little ease at the bustline.

Nice dress. I do agree with persevering - it's alarming that the pattern is so over-sized (a 36" bust should be a 14). But you've certainly got a good result. I have this pattern so thanks for the warning. I'm amazed by your embroidered buttons too. I had just about concluded that you did the dress embroidery to match bought buttons before I read what you wrote.
