hmm... so these are with negative ease too. Kind of like christine jonson's skirts. Its helpful to know that the pants don't flare out like they do in the pattern photo. I really like the boot cut style. Do you think these pants can be worn in office or are they only meant to be worn as 'Lounge Pants' I am thinking of making myself some easy pair of pants from knits which I can wear to work. I like the 'no gather look'.

Skymom-Thanks for reviewing these, I was looking for a pattern to make the yoga-style pants also! How much stretch did your cotton/lycra have? I don't want to use the dance recital or skater costume type lycra- that is what has held me back from trying some of these patterns that call for 75% stretch.

Deepika, I actually think these could be the bottom part of a salwar kameez outfit, since the upper part is very smoothly fitted and the hem is still pretty narrow. They are form-fitting all the way to the knee, and from there down a little bit looser. Whether you can wear them to the office would depend on the fabric, I think. For my taste they're too tight to wear unless under a long top (fingertip length or longer), but if I had the right fabric, I'd wear them to the office. I like the bootcut look, and could see these pants working like the Christine Jonson pencil skirt, as an alternative to leggings.

Jane, my fabric had the required amount of stretch, or maybe a bit more. And it's a regular old cotton lycra--nothing special, really. I must admit that when I measured the pattern I was a bit concerned about the negative ease, but decided to go with it. KS is pretty good about that, I'd say. Just make sure your seams are tightly stitched, since there will be stretching around the body. I serged mine (which are dark teal) with off-white thread since it was all I had, and you can see the stitches! So these aren't leaving the house for sure! But I also made a skirt in the same color with matching thread, and you don't see the seam stitches.

"If I could find a really substantial, stretchy knit in black, I'd make these as regular pants to wear under big sweaters and long jackets, as an updated version of leggings. " I bet you'd like Christine Jonson's cotton/lycra knit. It's lovely quality, heavy without being bulky or stiff. I think it would be perfect for these pants.

Karla, that's what I was thinking. For that and maybe for the slit skirt once I've perfected it (review to come!). I'd also really like to try her press-to-shrink method.

Thanks Skymom, any chance you can post a pic? I cant visualise the form fitting uptil the knee and then the flare.

Oh boy--a picture?! I think if I can get a shot from the knees down, maybe! But take a look on the KS website--there's a photo there that's pretty accurate. BTW, am I doing something wrong that my "Pattern Photo" links (which I cut and pasted from the site) show only the home page for KS? I'll have to see if I can get the real picture up.
