|Made in wool as a gift - and entered in the contest Photo updated to show the wool wrap made from this pattern.|
I bought a simple beginner KAM set from gotlux snaps on etsy to get going. Very inexpensive. Once I became comfortable and practiced I was fine. I am planning to buy a snap press for the sake of my hands and wrists but I have gotten used to the inexpensive hand tool for now.
The wool is from scraps from a scrap bag I got from a friend. The outside is a stretch wool and the inside is a double wool crepe. They are diaper quality wools. I have seen the bolts
Wool covers should be lightly lanolized to work, on the inside of the diaper or cover. There are many tutorials online. The wool then interacts with the urine in the diaper to neutralize it into harmless salt and evaporated water. Less smell etc.
Wool keeps baby cool in summer and warm in winter, really an ancient and well loved wonder fabric. These wools are soft and have no scratchy feel or any mohair or anything like that. They are smooth and soft.
Description from her etsy site (but you can now purchase her patterns on her Website
"This diaper cover pattern is super easy ...create the perfect cover with the features you want.
You can sew this cover up as a single layer wipeable PUL cover. You can use sandwich PUL and you can use fleece, windpro and any other suitable fabrics for covers.
... side wall gussets
...you can tuck-in an insert or prefold, wrap on baby and go?
Make our tuck-it-in style cover with or without insert snaps under the back flap and with or without gussets."
Newborn through OS (5 sizes total)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, i made it both ways, with snaps and without.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, very easy. She is widely available for support with all her patterns. Facebook and her webpage. She also has extensive customer pictures of finished products here:
She also has patterns about to be released in stores according to her website press:
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I particularly like that there are gusset patterns included, so you don't have to draft your own. I fond they work when converting any of her other diapers into covers.
OS (one size) inside view
A one size adjusts with rise snaps to fit babies from 7 lbs all the way to potty training. Sized covers fit in the size range NB to Large and are replaced with the next bigger size when the baby grows out of it.
My own self drafted organic bamboo prefold, snapped into the IASC under the leak guard.
Heart snaps on my prefold - couldn't resist sharing
PUL, KAM snaps, FOE (fold over elastic)
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Changed snaps to hook and loop tape but this is an option in the pattern, and occasional cutting off the wings and adding seam allowance to make different print wings.
You can also choose to add leak guards or not...
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I really LOVE RB patterns and plan to work my way through most of her patterns.
